The Museum is Not For Sale – Are you for sale?

Money never had so steep a price, where do we get the right to sell ones life?
Don’t you see the pain in her hopeless eyes
One day her dreams escaped into the night, darkness overtook the pale moonlight
Minutes turned to days and soon to years, now she can’t remember life before these tears…

I wanna look into your eyes on a beautiful night
freedom ringing on through the quiet sky
saying you and I, we are not for sale
Just to hold you in my arms & make this right
this moment you’ve been waiting for all your life
cause you and I, we are not for sale

We’re fighting money and power and greed for the suffering
bringing hope back to the least of these
but where we do stand, where do we start to fight?
I still believe we can be the cure, we can carry the love for the world to hear
we gotta find a way to make this right, cause we’re fighting here for a human life

– The Museum, “Not For Sale”

This week The Museum released a FREE download “Not For Sale” – not only is this a great song, it has such a strong message and passion behind it. The band recently wrote and recorded this song to raise awareness to end slavery and human trafficking.

Did you know that there are more than 27 million people across the world today that are enslaved? This is a staggering number that needs to be eliminated. There are so many artists using their platform to make a difference in this horrific reality. The Museum is one of these remarkable artists.

Next week, The Museum and Rapture Ruckus join the Not For Sale Freedom Tour. It is through the Not For Sale Freedom tour that The Museum hopes to help people, regardless of their age or life stage, realize everyone has a roll to play to fight trafficking. Part of that is simply being aware of the products purchased, too often the everyday products purchased are helping keep people enslaved.

Please take the time to learn more about ending human trafficking and slavery — download The Museum’s song today and share the link with your community.

Let me know how you are going to make a difference!

If you follow Twitter and any female bloggers, most likely you saw a string of #blissdom hashtags in your Twitter stream last week. I was honored to be one of those 700+ women who attended the annual Blissdom conference in Nashville, TN at the newly re-opened Opryland Hotel. Since this was my first blogger conference, I was really unsure what to expect.

Attending this conference had a two-fold purpose for me: 1. As a publicist, I 100% see the value of the blogger role in new media, and I’m constantly wanting to learn more about this world as well as those influencers in this ever-growing arena. 2. Personally, I have these ideas of blogs that I would love to write for my personal blog; however, things always get in my way as it gets put on the back-burner. I wanted to see how these amazing women with kids and other duties make time to blog!

I will say that anyone attending Blissdom is most likely suffering from information overload right now! I know I am, but I wanted to share a few of my highlights as well as favorite people I met along the way. A huge thanks to the Blissdom organizers Allison Worthington, Barbara Jones & Paula Bruno — they do a fabulous job of teaching bloggers to get their “Bliss” on!

My Top Take Aways from Blissdom 2011:

Take away #1: What makes you awesome?

I attended the Wisdom Workshops on Wednesday – a quote that stuck in my mind during the morning session was Alli stating, “Now go brand yourself Awesome.” – Which she followed by asking, no telling, each attendee to tweet why they’re awesome. YIKES! This is a hard thing to think of on the spot if you have even an ounce of humility. I’m still thinking on this on – I’ll let you know when I figure out why I’m awesome.

Take away #2: What do your Tweets say about you? About your brand?

“Does every tweet I send out meet up to my brand promise?” — If you follow my Twitter, @LoriMahon, you know that I love to share about my clients and their releases or accolades. I think this quote really makes me evaluate each tweet with careful consideration — I value each of those that choose to follow my Twitter feed, and I want to meet up to what I have set to do with this influence. Food for thought.

Take away #3: We all have something to offer – we just need to discover it.

“Do something unique – something fun with your followers, readers.” — Often, I don’t know what other things to post on this site other than the press releases serviced, but after this week, I think I have much more to offer to those that follow me. I want to be more creative and hopefully add more value to this site giving people a reason to read posts at Overture-Media.com.

Take away #4: “You can’t pick every cause, because your voice will be diluted. Pick one that is close to your heart – and champion that cause.” -Megan Jordan, @velveteenMind

Compassion fatigue is a very realistic struggle for anyone involved in social media – especially when you represent amazing clients that all have a heart for making a change. I hope that I can find a balance to share my clients’ passions and missions without causing fatigue with those I work with — this is a great thing to ponder!

Take away #5: Be kind to newcomers – welcome them into your circle

I will admit going into this conference, I knew that I would personally know very few people attending. I am a very outgoing person when I’m in my element – but something like this conference setting, I didn’t know if I’d get to personally connect with anyone. There were some great women that went out of their way to connect with me – @oohamanda and @stacib — such sweet ladies! I also loved connecting with @thebeadgirl at the @incourage Beach party on Thursday night. I also love how @inspiredtoaction connected me with Amanda even when she wasn’t at the conference! Huge thanks!

Also thank you Dayspring & Incourage for including Adie Camp’s album in your gift bags for the Beach Party! I hope everyone enjoys it!

~ Lori

SEATTLE, WA…January 12, 2011 – Gearing up for the February 8th release, Crazy Love, Hawk Nelson celebrates another No. 1 CHR single with the title track “Crazy Love.” The debut radio single had a huge jump from No. 7 to No. 1 this week. This song has also moved into the Top 10 at Rock and No. 22 on the National Christian Audience chart. Such reception to this song is a positive indication of the forthcoming release on Tooth & Nail Records / BEC Recordings.

“‘Crazy Love’ is an anthem for people seeking to love God more passionately and our listeners can’t hear it enough.”

“The topic of love in songs on our station is really one that our listeners have responded to favorably, and the challenge in this song for our listeners to step out on a limb, be crazy, and see how God responds when you are obedient, coupled with a cool sounding song, is the type of song we want. Congrats on that HUGE jump to #1, Hawk Nelson!”

- Johnathon Eltrevoog (WONU PD)

Hawk Nelson will be taking their popular live show on the road with the Women of Faith girls’ conferences – the REVOLVE tour.
Crazy Love will hit stores next month showcasing what Hawk Nelson promises to be a combination of pop/rock and new styles with a “truth” theme. Being more transparent and overt about their faith on this release, Hawk Nelson also wants to continue to encourage fans to love like crazy as stated in the debut radio single. In addition to Crazy Love, Hawk Nelson will also be releasing The Light Sides, acoustic/stripped down versions of their hit songs from their four previous albums. The Light Sides will only be available with the purchase of Crazy Love.
ANNOUNCING THE NOT FOR SALE FREEDOM TOUR BEGINNING IN FEB.
TOUR INCLUDES RAPTURE RUCKUS AND THE MUSEUM

SEATTLE, WA…January 11, 2010…As today marks Human Trafficking Awareness Day and January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, BEC Recordings’ The Museum is joining efforts to make strides to help end human trafficking. Starting February 9th, the “Not For Sale Freedom Tour” will kick-off featuring labelmate Rapture Ruckus and The Museum.

The Museum has partnered with Not For Sale to provide a night woven together with music and education – a tour with a purpose. The Not For Sale Campaign equips and mobilizes Smart Activists to deploy innovative solutions to re-abolish slavery in their own backyards and across the globe ( http://www.notforsalecampaign.org/). With 27 million people enslaved across the world today, The Museum is serious about this partnership.

“We’re so excited for this tour because it’s much more than just a night of enjoying music. We’ve worked for months to partner with Not For Sale Campaign to make sure this is a night with great purpose,” shares The Museum frontman Ben Richter. “Through video, songs & sharing stories of those who have been rescued from trafficking, it’s our hope to awaken the church to a new level of awareness & responsibility to fight trafficking.”

It is through the Not For Sale Freedom tour that The Museum hopes to help people, regardless of their age or life stage, realize everyone has a roll to play to fight trafficking. Part of that is simply being aware of the products purchased, too often the everyday products bought are helping keep people enslaved.

“We will also encourage young people toward starting student abolitionist groups in their schools or organizations to help build awareness among their peers,” states Richter. “Another way to make a difference will be to give financially. Through “28 to Emancipate” people can choose to give $28 a month to end slavery.”

The Museum has also written and recently recorded a special song to raise awareness to end slavery and human trafficking. This single “Not For Sale” will be available for a free download beginning on February 1st on National Freedom Day. Fans can go to www.TheMuseumIsNotForSale.com to learn more about human trafficking and get the free download next month.

BEC Recordings’ artist The Glorious Unseen and their frontman Ben Crist has sent out a letter to family, friends and fans about a new season in his life. We wanted to make sure to share this news from the letter. We are excited to see what God does in Ben’s life and praying for this new chapter.

Friends – many of you already know about this, but there are some of you that do not know yet. This Wednesday, I am officially moving to Kansas City, MO – to be involved at the International House of Prayer (IHOP). Most of you know that I have been out there this past fall, involved in an internship. During this internship – God has massively and violently apprehended my heart, and called me forward into a completely new season of life. What this new season holds, I do not really know – and yet it is completely exhilarating to discover that God has given me “a completely new start in life” at age 30. By age 30, I know most people are already pretty rooted in a career, a marriage, kids, bills, and all of the concerns of life. I have had some of these things in the past – but somehow find myself here with none of these things to hold me back from picking up and moving anywhere in the world that God wants me to be.

And Ben also touches on what will happen with The Glorious Unseen, which for now is on hold.

For now, he has called me to simply lay it down before him. I actually had to cancel several large events we were scheduled to play in 2011 – cause He has asked me to boldly step forward into the next phase of life – and be done with the old. Instead of touring, I am simply committing to a life of prayer, fasting, and meditation on scripture –

You can view the complete letter here.

About Kutless
Launched by original members Jon Micah Sumrall (lead vocals) and guitarist James Mead, the band formed first as a modern rock/worship band at Warner Pacific College in Portland in 2000, influenced by Christian rock predecessors such as the Supertones as well as mainstream modern rockers like Staind, Foo Fighters, and Incubus. Kutless signed to Tooth & Nail/BEC in late 2001 and released its self-titled debut the following year, which went on to become the fastest-selling debut in the label’s history. Hearts of the Innocent marked the recording debut of the band’s new members, drummer Jeffrey Gilbert and bass player Dave Luetkenhoelter, both formerly of alt-rock band Seven Places. In 2007, Nick De Partee joined the band as the new guitarist after being with the band for over a year as their guitar tech.

This Portland, Oregon-based Kutless has emerged as one of Christian and rock music’s hottest acts. Kutless has played before more than 2 million fans in the past five years. In 2009, the band was awarded RIAA Gold Certification for their worship-based album “Strong Tower” in addition to Gold Certification for Long-Form video “Live From Portland.” The band has been nominated for multiple Dove Awards, earning its first for the band’s participation on the Special Event Album of the Year, the soundtrack to “Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.” Kutless’ music also has been featured in television and film. The Kutless song “All of the Words” appeared on the NBC hit TV show “Scrubs,” in an episode titled “My Bright Idea.” Last year, the band’s song “The Feeling” was featured on the Rock Band 2 downloadable track for Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii.

NASHVILLE, TN — December 14, 2010 — A picture’s value was defined around the world with photographers and volunteers uniting for the second annual Help-Portrait event last Saturday, 04 December. Surpassing last year’s numbers, more than 10,574 photographers, volunteers, make-up artists and hair stylists joined together to give, not take, more than 54,526 photos around the world in 46 countries.

These preliminary numbers are set to increase as Help-Portrait events are continuing through the month of December. Help-Portrait is simple: 1. Find someone in need 2. Take their portrait 3. Print their portrait and 4. Deliver their portrait.

“In our second year of Help-Portrait, we have again seen that the gift of a photograph is far more important than we ever imagined,” shares founder Jeremy Cowart. “It is a complete honor to equip photographers around the world to give portraits to families in need. A picture is worth. We see that more now than ever.”

New this year was an online live stream of the main event day from the creativeLIVE studio in Seattle. As a Help-Portrait event happened in the background, hosts including H-P founder Jeremy Cowart, another high-profile photographer Chase Jarvis and H-P volunteer staff member Annie Downs checked in with H-P organizers around the world via Skype to share their stories.

From Bangalore, India to Ghana, Africa, the language of Help-Portrait crossed cultural and socio-economic barriers. Even Hollywood got in the act. A-list actors Zachary Levi and Yvette Nicole Brown volunteered at a Help-Portrait event in Los Angeles and participated in the live webcast.

Ritz Camera and Chick-fil-A were also major partners of the event donating their resources around the nation. This week, songwriters Andy Davis, Jason Ingram, Paul Mabury and Chad Cates wrote an original song for Help-Portrait called “I See You.” It’s available for free download at https://www.noisetrade.com/helpportrait#.

ABOUT HELP-PORTRAIT: Help-Portrait, a non-profit organization, was formed in 2009 by Nashville-based celebrity photographer Jeremy Cowart as he contemplated using his skills and expertise to give back to those who may not have the opportunity for a professional photo. The idea is that a photographer has the unique ability to help someone smile, laugh and return their dignity. It is a movement, a shift in photography. The rapid growth of this organization is a perfect example of Social Media use for good as the community shares ideas and stories through the channels of Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and blogging. Last December more than 41,000 portraits were given by 3400 photographers and over 5000 volunteers were involved. Help-Portrait became a global movement in 543 locations in 42 countries.

TOOTH & NAIL RECORDS / BEC RECORDINGS

SEATTLE, WA–December 06, 2010– Nearly four months until the release of the debut solo project, Anthem Song, from Aaron Gillespie (former Underoath drummer, front man of The Almost), is already generating a strong buzz amongst his loyal fans. This album is set to release on Tooth & Nail Records / BEC Recordings on March 8, 2011. Fans can experience a taste of this album with the debut radio single, “We Were Made For You” (co-written with Paul Baloche), premiering now on Aaron’s Facebook page.

“I’ve always wanted to make a record like this. The Almost is a rock band, and we didn’t want to mix the two styles,” Aaron begins to explain. “I have this desire to see our generation worshipping God. But a lot of the people I get to meet through music—kids with tattoos and swoop over haircuts—don’t think of worship as ‘cool.’ I want them to find a home and a vocabulary to experience this kind of music.”

As a dynamic, outspoken artist in the music scene, Aaron Gillespie isn’t always what one might expect to find in a faith-based performer and such is the case with this project. Aaron’s strong musical history began at the young age of 14 as a standout drummer and co-founder of the popular metalcore band Underoath, which he amicably left earlier this year.

Aaron recorded Anthem Song in Seattle with versatile producer Aaron Sprinkle (Jeremy Camp, Kutless). Both multi-instrumentalists, they played nearly everything on the album. Co-writers Paul Baloche, Sarah Hart, and Phillip LaRue also helped pen what is largely a very personal record about adoring God, worshiping Him “because He is and because you are; just because you woke up today.”

Much of that outlook was influenced by a mission trip Aaron took to Africa.

“The people in Africa, which I experienced were so happy, so joyful despite their circumstances. They have nothing, but they worship so wholeheartedly,” recalls Aaron. “I went there as a rich American expecting to fix something in their world. But we are the ones who need fixing. I’ve learned that God’s goodness is an anthem that will play forever. Our job is to grab a piece of that song while we are here.”

Be a part of this Anthem Song. Stay tuned for more announcements with Aaron Gillespie and his solo debut.

TOOTH & NAIL RECORDS’ NEW SIGNING I AM EMPIRE SETS RELEASE DATE
KINGS RELEASING JANUARY 25, 2011; SINGLE POSTED ON MYSPACE

SEATTLE, WA–December 1, 2010–Tooth & Nail Records’ newest addition, I Am Empire, is readying for their label debut, “Kings,” set for January 25, 2011. Recorded in Nashville, TN with producer Rob Hawkins (Disciple, Fireflight), the dozen tracks features a range of alternative rock songs and styles including the rock single “Brain Damage” that is already charting in the Top 20. This single is making its debut on the band’s MySpace today ( http://www.myspace.com/iamempire).

This San Jose-bred fivesome had no trouble igniting the local scene since forming in 2008, including dates alongside Flyleaf, Sublime, Deftones, Silversun Pickups, Thursday, Four Year Strong and The Wedding, a pair of charting singles (“You’re A Fake” and “The Elevator”), plus additional acclaim from Alternative Press, AOL’s Spinner and San Francisco’s LIVE105 radio station. Amongst this success, it was the personal story from front man Austin Lyon’s fractured upbringing that lays the thematic foundation for “Kings.”

“The whole record is about abandonment, particularly the fact that my father is the one who abandoned me,” says the singer/songwriter for I Am Empire (whose moniker is basically a battle cry to be yourself and never feel pressured towards conformity). “We decided to name the record Kings because it signifies the head of a household, and if you’ve been abandoned, you want to look past that person and try to be better when you grow up. The goal is to take up the crown that person left behind and be better than the person who left, which can really apply to any type of relationship.”

The results of Lyon’s writing finds the guitar-charged record split between tracks of justified venting to seasons of spiritual renewal. Cuts like the lead single “Brain Damage,” “Saints & Sinners,” “Heart Attack,” “To the Moon” and “Foxhole” are aggressive examples of anger relief that encourage listeners to never bottle up their emotions, while “Hammers & Anvils,” “Love & Despair” and “Take Me Away” speak of healing, reconciliation and forgiveness.

Between the band’s artistic ambitions, unceasing work ethic, tireless time on tour and thematic reliability, I Am Empire is a perfect match with Tooth & Nail. For more information on I Am Empire, visit: http://www.myspace.com/iamempire and follow the band on Twitter @iamempire
